Backwards and forwards
Eddie's in the US this week, on what seems to be a never-ending round of internal flights, customer meetings and horrible hotels. With the US Government on hold while they fight about paying for the the Wall, chaos reigns at the airports, adding to his misery.
In the meantime I'm holding the fort at home. I've told William to get on his bike, literally, because I don't have time to drop off or pick up. James still needs taking in, but my new year's resolution on the school front, is never to drive over the Bottleneck Bridge, where Mums in 4x4s seem incapable of understanding the concept of giving way. This results in a regular pile-up on both sides of the tiny bridge as no-one can get past and no-one's prepared to back-up (or perhaps can't, reverse can be challenging in a [insert 4 x 4 of choice].
I digress.
James gets dropped off as quickly as possible, giving me time to do a U-ie (sp) and head for the M4, where I promptly get stuck in the traffic from Reading to Maidenhead, then the miserable 50mph speed limit onwards to Slough, before I escape out the other side to glorious Feltham.
Arriving at work for around 9.30am if I'm lucky, I then spend the next five hours on back-to-back calls and meetings, checking my emails if I can and doing absolutely no actual work. 3pm and it's time to head for home to pick James up, coerce both children into doing whatever prep they may have and get back in the car to ferry one or both to whatever after school clubs they may have.
When we finally get as far as supper, pickings are thin - but tasty! Tonight, the fabulous Tuna Melt Toastie. Tomorrow we may go mad and risk pizza. OR, and no promises mind, I'm considering rolling up my sleeves and producing a curry. Probably the latter tbh; we've earned it.
It's now 8.30ish and I've just finished catching up on work emails and prepping for a meeting tomorrow morning. I am exhausted. I've been in the car for well over four hours today, the whole juggling work/kids thing is so hard. This afternoon proved particularly challenging as I had to move from a Webex call in the house, to the car, which involves typing in numerous PINs and Access Codes. Rejoicing at my eventual success in returning to the call, I then couldn't work out how to mute the bloody mic, until one of the ladies yelled "whoever's driving could they please go on mute!" Doh.
Silence from above. I've asked the boys to clean their teeth, wash their faces and get ready for bed. So they'll be playing on their phones. Time to go.
