James is 11!
It's been one of those birthdays which has run over three days rather than an afternoon/evening special. Typical James!
We took four of James' mates out to the cinema on Saturday to watch 'The House with a Clock in its Walls'. An odd choice maybe, but the alternative was 'Antman and the Wasp.' which looked dire. Or go karting which would have required us remortgaging the house. Honestly how much?
Fortunately the boys seemed to like the film, and an endless supply of popcorn and wine gums probably helped. Then back home for Fortnite and burgers, followed by chocolate and vanilla cake. None of which touched the sides. They're a nice bunch and it was actually a pretty relaxing way to spend the afternoon. A far cry from the carnage of earlier years and smaller versions of this lot.
On Sunday Eddie dropped the three of us off at Snelsmore and we walked back through the woods in the sunshine with Bella, while he dug beans, carrots and leeks from the allotment to have with James' requested roast chicken (I even let him off the bread sauce). Then we all collapsed in front of Avatar for the rest of the day - the perfect Sunday pre-birthday film.
Then today, the big day! We got James a new bike. Poor soul has never had a new bike, it's always been hand-me-downs from Will or the Greens or even a £10 cheapie from the fete. He loved it. We put it in front of our bedroom fireplace so it was the first thing he saw as he came in. He got lots of bike accessories and other goodies from Godparents and family (well, the ones that remembered anyway). Iced buns to take in for his class and an altogether happy day. He came home to lasagne and a chance to cycle round the square on the new bike. All in all a very good run as birthdays go! My lovely boy.
