Working Mum

There may have been torrential rain in England over the Summer, but work-wise it was a drought.  Fortunately, just before Christmas a project came in and then before I knew it I had a job up in London 2 days a week.

How to manage?  We limped along for the first couple of weeks with Eddie taking the boys into school, walking home at lunchtime to take Bella out and then picking the boys up again after Fun Club, but it wasn't sustainable.  We've never really had to think about child care before, but the pressure was suddenly on as Eddie had a trip booked to the US and we were also acquiring 2 additional black labradors for a couple of weeks to look after for the Levys who were off to St Lucia.

Long story short, I advertised on Gumtree and have found someone to help out on the days that I go up to London.  A very safe pair of hands, she'll drop-off and pick-up the boys and doesn't mind walking a swarm of large black dogs in any weather.  A tick in all the boxes for me.

The first week was hard.  Eddie was away, the dogs were everywhere and I spent every minute in London worrying. But we're settling down now, Eddie's home, Buddy and Mischief are being picked up on Wednesday and Natalie's doing well with the boys/dogs/ironing.

In the meantime I'm trying to do as much work as I can, but working in an office environment is very different from focusing on a single project from home.  You're never part of the team, and that makes it hard.  Time drags when you're commuting, but it drags even more when you don't have enough to do.

Trying to grit my teeth, get as much achieved as I can and enjoy the fact that I have this opportunity at all!
