Miracles and Smiles

I had a lovely morning yesterday chatting to the girls at playgroup, feeding James and watching William tootle about. Will is such a careful little boy, not boisterous at all. He was trying to copy a little girl going down one of the slides on her front, but did it on his hands and knees in case he went too fast. Sometimes I get a lump in my throat just watching him - I want to scoop him up and run away with him!

HOWEVER, peace comes at a price and the afternoon was hideous with both boys screaming pretty much non-stop. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Poor Will has a stinking cold so I ended up dosing him with Calpol while feeding James and finally got a moment's peace. Typically, by the time Eddie came home at 6.30pm calm was restored and he couldn't understand why I was in such a foul mood.

As far as James' sleeping goes, we hit Waitrose and stocked up on Aptimil cartons to top him up before bed, and the dreaded dummy as a last resort. I'd actually managed to express 3 ozs in the day so Eddie gave him that and then I topped him up just before we put him down. He fell asleep on me and I held him for 10 minutes in our bedroom, too nervous to actually put him in the moses basket. Eventually, when I was sure he was out for the count, I risked it, and a part from a few snuffles, off he went - and he stayed asleep until midnight! HURRAH!!!

Am now trying to replicate yesterday's pattern in the hope we may have cracked the formula (and get an uninterrupted episode of Heroes for the first time in 5 weeks....)

The next challenge is trying to get James to smile for me. Eddie gave me the fright of my life rapping on the shower door this morning crowing that he'd just smiled at him. Typically, he looked straight over my left shoulder as per usual....but I live in hope I'll crack another one out of him later today :)
